And the winner is… Jake Dennis !
Voilà LA course qui compte, la Finale U18, avec sa grille de départ toute particulière après le cumul des deux préfinales. La formule promet un spectacle sportif intense pour ceux qui sauront négocier les premiers virages. Avec 25 tours au programme, il serait sage de ne pas se précipiter…
Julian Wagner (Mach 1) et Matias Köykkä (Maranello) occupent la 1ère ligne, devant Maximilian Koch (Maranello) et Alex Baron (Sodi) avec un bon groupe de favoris aux trousses. Le classement indique Wagner 1er, suivi par Köykkä, Favaro et déjà Dennis revenu à l’avant, le ton est donné. Vincent Fraïsse (Intrepid) pointe 5ème, devant John Norris (Intrepid), Teemu Suninen (Maranello), Anthony Micoud (Intrepid), Victor Colomé (Intrepid) et Jake Lloyd (Intrepid). Baron a chuté en fond de peloton lors d’un accrochage dont nous connaîtrons le responsable plus tard. C’est maintenant Köykkä qui mène la danse devant Favaro et Dennis à une poignée de dixièmes. Norris a passé Fraisse, talonné par le redoutable Suninen.
Au 5ème tour, Favaro caracole en tête, Dennis se rapproche de Köykkä, Norris 4ème, Suninen 5ème et Fraïsse 6ème. Dennis passe Köykkä qui cède aussi face à Norris. Comme on pouvait s’y attendre, Suninen attaque Köykkä maintenant marqué par Fraisse. Favaro possède plus d’une seconde d’avance sur Dennis quand il est stoppé au drapeau noir dans le 9ème tour. C’est sa conduite agressive lors du 1er tour qui est sanctionnée après vérification vidéo. Une bonne chose !
La 1ère place revient donc à Dennis, suivi à plus d’une seconde par un quatuor déchainé: Norris, Suninen, Köykkä et Fraïsse. Mäntylä occupe la 6ème position, Colomé la 7ème à quelques distances et Wagner, le poleman la 8ème. Il ne semble plus possible d’assister maintenant à des remontées fantastiques, mais des changements ne sont pas à exclure.
Köykkä reprend la 3ème place à Suninen après la mi-course et il attaque bientôt Norris pour la seconde position. Ce dernier ne résistera pas longtemps à Suninen, et Fraisse aimerait bien le doubler aussi. Cette bagarre a permis à Mäntylä de revenir et de surprendre Fraïsse. Dennis domine son sujet, 1,2 » devant un Köykkä en pleine attaque, lui-même 1 » devant Suninen. Mäntylä pourrait bien avoir les moyens de menacer Norris pour la 4ème place, mais les positions ne changeront plus jusqu’à l’arrivée qui récompense fort logiquement Jake Dennis, Top Kart et le Royaume Uni.

Here is the race that counts, the U18 Final, with it’s grid made up from the combination of the two Prefinals. The formula promises to be intense for those who negotiate the twists and turns. With 25 laps on the programme, it would be wise not to rush…
Julian Wagner (Mach 1) and Matias Koykka (Maranello) were on the front row, ahead of Maximilian Koch (Maranello) and Alex Baron (Sodi) in a group of favourites. The order was Wagner first, followed by Koykka, with Dennis and Favaro already returned to the front, so the tone was set.
Vincent Fraisse (Intrepid) was 5th, ahead of John Norris (Intrepid), Teemu Suninen (Maranello), Anthony Micoud (Intrepid), Victor Colome (Intrepid) and Jake Lloyd (Intrepid). Baron fell to the bottom of the pack in a clash that we knew would have consequences later.
Now Koykka was leading and was ahead of Dennis and Favaro by a few tenths. Norris took Fraisse, spurred on by the dreaded Suninen. On lap 5, Favaro stormed into the lead, Dennis closed on Koykka, Norris was 4th, Suninen 5th and Fraisse 6th. Dennis took Koykka who also ceded to Norris. As might be expected Suninen attacked Koykka who was now chased by Fraisse.
Favaro was more than a second ahead of Dennis when he was stopped by the black flag on lap 9, due to his aggressive driving on the first lap which was sanctioned after verification on video, which was a good thing!
The lead went to Dennis, followed after a second by an unrestrained quartet: Norris, Suninen, Koykka and Fraisse. Mantyla was in 6th, Colome 7th, and Wagner, the polesitter, in 8th.
It seemed impossible that anything else would happen, but changes were not out of the question. Koykka took 3rd from Suninen at halfway and soon attacked Norris for 2nd. Suninen didn’t stay there for long and Fraisse also looked to overtake. Dennis dominated the race, 1.2s away from an attack from Koykka, himself a second ahead of Suninen. Mantyla threatened Norris for 4th, but the positions didn’t change and the award went to Jake Dennis, Topkart and the United Kingdom.
